The Montreal Convention of 1999 for the Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air entered into force for Ukraine on May 6, 1999. In comparison with its predecessor – the Warsaw Convention of 1929 for the Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air – the Montreal Convention regulates the carrier’s responsibility for the damage or death of the passengers more strictly. The Montreal Convention shall apply only to the carriages within the states of departure and destination that ratified the present Convention. The states that did not ratify the Montreal Convention shall apply the Warsaw Convention to the appropriate relations. Nowadays the states parties to the Montreal Convention are 103 countries and the European Union icpdf.
