Conference on international arbitration organized by Vienna International Arbitral Centre was held in Kiev on 13 November, 2013 and was a part of a series of events devoted to the popularization and promoting campaign of the new Arbitration Rules (you can read them here) and legislative amendments to Austrian Law.Jurvneshservice’s lawyers practicing in arbitration and keeping an eye on the latest arbitration news couldn’t but attend this conference. A range of prominent and experienced foreign lawyers and representatives of the Centre made speeches there, outlining the principal changes in the arbitration rules that affected mainly multiparty arbitration, multi-contract arbitration and joinder. Furthermore, special attention was paid to the changes in the light of UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration to the Austrian Code of Civil Procedure concerning the binding character of the interim measures rendered by the arbitration court and the obligation of the state court to enforce them upon the application of the relevant party. And, of course, one of the fundamental shifts in the order of challenging of arbitral awards, namely shortening the procedure for challenging an arbitration award to one instance, the Austrian Supreme Court, was thoroughly envisaged.
